Flavorful, colorful and packed with healthy-ish goodness.. here is my recipe for an amazing homemade turkey burger.. the kind you can have over and over again without feeling too guilty. Aaaaaand without skipping the flavor!
Caribbean Turkey Burger
8 Kaiser Rolls (can be bought in most stores, can be substituted for Pretzel buns or plain Sesame Seed buns)
Butter (for toasting your buns)
Patties (makes about 8 patties)
2lbs Lean Ground Turkey Meat
1/2 Can Black Beans
1/2 Red Sweet Pepper (small dice)
1/2 Yellow Sweet Pepper (small dice)
1/4 Cup Green Onion (finely chop)
1/2 Yellow Onion (finely chopped)
1Tbsp Garlic (minced)
1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
1 Tbsp Basil (fresh or dried)
1 Tbsp Oregano (fresh or dried)
1 Tbsp of Salt
1 Tbsp of Black Pepper
1 Tbsp of Garlic Powder
1 Tsp of Cayenne
1 Cup Kale (rough chop)
1 Big Tomato
Mozzarella (Thick Slices)
1/2 Cup Mayo
1/4 Cup Sriracha
1 Tbsp Lime Juice
Salt & Pepper to taste
Firstly, we'll combine all the ingredients for our patties, Making sure to get your hands in there! Getting an even distribution of the ingredients ensures juicy and flavorful patties. Mold your patties, using about 1/2 cup of mix per portion. You can individually wrap them in cling wrap and place in the refrigerator until your ready to grill.
Same goes now for our aioli.. combine all the ingredients until thoroughly combined. Set aside in the refrigerator to chill.
Gather your toppings and arrange for easy stacking. Cut your buns in two and butter them for a quick toasting while you throw your burgers on the grill. Toast your buns for no more than 1-2 minutes, depending on how crisp you like your buns. At this point you should have your patties on the grill, going no more than 5 minutes on each side. Once done, pull out your aioli, slathering both sides of your buns and arrange your burger. Your patty first, mozzarella next onto the warm patty..your sliced avocado, tomato and chopped kale and finally topped with your remaining bun.
There you go! Wasn't that easy? Now all you gotta do is enjoy!
